Dr Emma Allsop - MB ChB, MRCGP, DRCOG, DFFP, PG Cert Palliative Care
I trained at the University of Manchester and worked in the North West for a short time before moving down and settling in Devon in 1998. I have been working at Chilcote since 2004 and am a GP Partner and also an Educational Supervisor to GP trainees. Chilcote is a thriving training practice and I enjoy supporting junior doctors through their training to be the GPs of the future. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and making the most of our beautiful surroundings, walking and sea swimming.

Dr Richard Mather - BMedSci, BMBS, MRCP(UK), MRCGP
Born and brought up in Cornwall, I graduated from the University of Nottingham in 1995. Following registration I worked in the Royal Navy for six years and in hospital medicine before training for General Practice. My particular medical interest is in neurology. I am married with two young children who happily take up most of my spare time! My other interests are travel, anything to do with the outdoors, and music. I've also taken up Taekwondo and am progressing slowly and creakily up the grades.

Dr Emma Funnell MBChB, MPH, BSc(Hons), MRCGP, DRCOG
I was born and raised in Exeter, and went to medical school at Liverpool University. After graduating in 2005 I stayed in Merseyside to do my GP training before moving back to Devon in 2012. I am married to Matthew who is also a GP, and have three young children who keep us very busy. We enjoy being involved with our local church, and I also love watercolour painting and walking.

Dr Tim Butler - MBChB, BSc(Hons), MRCGP, DRCOG, DCH
I am originally from Bristol and qualified from Birmingham University. I have lived in Torquay for the last eight years, working at Torbay Hospital and then training for General Practice at the Leatside Surgery in Totnes. A keen sportsman, I enjoy scuba diving, tennis and running.

Dr Sarah Rowe - MBChB, MRCGP, DCH, DRCOG, DFSRH
I qualified as a doctor in 2005 at the University of Manchester and spent the next few years working across a range of hospital specialties while completing my GP training. In 2010 I returned to my hometown of Torquay, working in the out of hours service and local prisons before joining Chilcote Surgery as a partner in 2011. I enjoy all aspects of General Practice and value getting to know the people and families I care for. I’m involved in training the next generation of doctors, supervising our Foundation Year 2 doctors and supporting medical students. I also mentor newly qualified GPs across Devon. Alongside my clinical work, I am a rep for Devon Local Medical Committee and work as a GP Clinical Advisor for Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my young family. You’ll often find me out on my bike or at the gym, where I like to unwind and recharge.

Dr Bullock - MBBS, BSc(Hons), DRCOG, MRCGP
I was born and raised in Torquay, moving to London to complete my training at Imperial College London in 2007. I moved back to Torquay in 2014 after completing my GP training in East London. I have a specialist interest in drugs and alcohol and maternal medicine, as well as education, training and research. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, travelling around Europe and cycling and walking around Devon.

Dr William Aston - BSc (hons), BMBS, MRCGP
I spent my childhood in Somerset and qualified from Nottingham university medical school in 2011. I moved to Torbay in 2014 and joined the practice in 2016. I am married and have two sons who keep me busy outside work. When I can find time I enjoy fishing, the outdoors and living in a seaside town.

Dr Eva Baker - MRCGP, DCOG, DFFP
I graduated from the Regensburg University, Germany in 2002. I lived and worked in Bristol and Edinburgh before settling in Torbay in 2004 to complete my GP training at the Torbay Hospital. I worked in Brixham from 2007 to 2015 and then in Brunel Medical Practice, Torquay. I have particular interest women’s and child health. I am married and have two children. In my spare time I enjoy being together with my family, walking in Dartmoor or just reading a good book.

Dr Patricia Ellis - MRCGP, MBBS, iBSc Physiology
I grew up near Guildford in Surrey and went on to graduate from the Hull and York Medical School in 2013. I then trained at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth for 2 years before moving to London for GP training. I moved back to the South West and joined Chilcote Surgery in 2018 where I work part time, 2 days a week. I enjoy the variety within General Practice and am keen to develop special interests over time. I live with my partner and my dog and we enjoy long walks together exploring the Devon coast.

Dr Sue Binning- BSc Pharm MB, ChB, DRCOG, DCH
I qualified from Bristol University in 1985 and initially became partner in South West London. In 1999 my family and I moved to Devon and I joined Cricketfield Surgery in Newton Abbot where I spent 21 happy years. I retired as Senior Partner in May 2020 and joined Chilcote as a part-time Salaried GP to allow more flexible working. I enjoy the wide variety of challenges found in General Practice but have a particular interest in Hypertension, Diabetes and Social Prescribing. When not at work I enjoy Irish Set Dancing, Dartmoor and travelling.

Dr Elizabeth Lyle - MB BCh (hons) MRCGP DFFP
I grew up in Sussex before studying medicine in Cardiff. I qualified in 2007 and worked in south Wales, New Zealand and South Africa before settling in Devon to complete my GP training. I am married with three young children and following a career break I joined Chilcote part time in September 2020. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family at the coast.

Dr Esther Clayton
I grew up in Sussex and qualified from Southampton University medical School in 2013. I trained at Southampton General Hospital for the first few years and moved to Torbay in 2018 where I completed my GP training. After my training I joined Chilcote surgery, working 3 days a week as a salaried GP. I am married to a church pastor and we have 3 young children. We are very involved our local church and love to spend as much time outside as possible, either going for coastal walks or swimming in the sea.

Dr Jessica Stone

I grew up in the midlands before moving down to Cornwall to study Film Production. After a few years of working in the industry and living in New Zealand I returned to England completed science A-Levels and completed my medical degree in Swansea before moving to Devon in 2020. Outside of work I enjoy running, getting in the sea and spending time with my family on the moors or at the beach.

Dr Louise Marrs
I graduated from Birmingham Medical School in 2014 and subsequently moved to Torbay, where I undertook my GP training and qualified in 2024. I have been working at Chilcote since qualifying and enjoy all aspects of general practice. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, including my three young daughters. My interests also include going to adult ballet classes and running.

Dr Marie Larford
I grew up in Brixham before going on to study International Development at Sussex University and later qualifying in Medicine from Barts and The London. I went on to do further training in Bristol and London before moving back to Devon and joining Chilcote in 2022 where I work three days a week. I enjoy many aspects of general practice but also have a particular interest in health inequalities and refugee health which I pursue in my spare time. Outside of medicine I enjoy being out in nature, sea swimming, and exploring new places.

Practice Nursing Team

Our Practice Nurses; Sarah, Carole, Joanna, Sarah-Louise & Taylor can be seen by appointment and are available to give advice over the telephone.  They are available to consult for asthma, COPD, diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke/TIA, hypertension, cervical screening, sexual health, contraceptive services, travel advice and immunisations, health promotion advice, weight management, NHS Health checks, childhood immunisations, HRT advice, minor injuries, wounds and leg ulcers.

Suzanne and Chelsea can be seen by appointment for phlebotomy (blood tests) daily.

Our Registered Nurses have all attended accredited Smear Courses and attend regular updates.

Our Healthcare Assistants, Di, Jo and Amanda can be seen by appointment for a variety of appointments: phlebotomy, warfarin monitoring, blood pressure, coronary heart disease, NHS Health Checks, ECGs, medicals, removal of sutures and dressings.  In addition to this they assist with minor operations.

Sexual Health Services:

Several of our Clinical Staff have undertaken further training in this area, and are able to provide a full confidential sexual health screening service.

Chilcote Surgery Specialist Nurse Service aims to complement and support the services already provided by the Practice and Community Nurses.  It provides a system of care for those patients with long-term illnesses who may have difficulty accessing services at the surgery, and whose needs may be more appropriately met within the home environment.

Conditions requiring special attention include:

  • Coronary heart disease
  • Heart problems
  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Stroke and TIA (mini stroke)
  • Diabetes
  • Asthma
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • Mental health problems
  • Epilepsy
  • Thyroid disease

  • Arthritis
  • Kidney and liver disease
  • Falls
  • Learning Disability

The Specialist Nurses visit housebound patients in their own homes or residential and nursing homes to monitor ongoing treatment and medication, and offer appropriate support to both the patients and their carers.

I was born in Torquay and have lived in the local area all my life, except during my studies at the University of Birmingham. I joined Chilcote Surgery in 2021 after a career in Retail Management, before taking on the role as Business Manager in July 2022.  I live with my Partner and enjoy spending time with our family and friends.

My interests include crafting, baking and spending time in the great outdoors.

Our experienced Reception and Administrative Team perform a vital role within the Practice, and work hard to provide a friendly and efficient service to our patients.

The Reception Team are specially trained to help with your enquiries.  To help them deal with your enquiry efficiently they may need to ask you for additional information in order to best decide how to deal with your request.  Please respond positively to help our staff to help you.
