Asthma “September Surge”

Posted on September 9th, 2025

A marked rise in hospital admission rates for asthma among young people occurs during September and ‘week 38’ specifically.

This is also known as the ‘September Surge.’

Please ensure that your child is taking their daily preventer (usually brown) and is not needing their blue inhaler on a regular basis as this can indicate that their asthma is not well controlled.

It’s important that your child has had their annual review with one of our asthma nurses and has an up to date Asthma Action Plan, both for home and school.

If you have any concerns or need to book your child in for a review, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you.
